About Naxxar
Naxxar
is a beautiful village located in the central/north of Malta. The
old village part is built up around the
main parish church. On the side of this church
one finds the renowned Palazzo Parisio, the residence of the family
Scicluna, descending from the Marquis
who was the first to open a local bank in Malta and who
owned (and the family still owns) a famous
local brewery. The Palace was built to
very high classic specifications and is
decorated with beautiful marble and many of the walls are gold-gilded with
beautiful designs. The palace is a mini-Versailles and is surely worth a
visit!
There are many theories related
to the origin of the name Naxxar. Two of them have religious connotations.
Traditionally it is claimed that habitants of Naxxar were amongst the first
to help the shipwrecked, including Saint Paul in his ship wreck on the
shores of Malta. For this reason many connect the name Naxxar with Nassar
(Nasra) which means 'conversion to Christianity'. Others claim that the
title is derived from the word “Nsara” or “Nazaroei” which means 'those who
believe in the teachings of Christ who came from Nazareth.
The village of Naxxar dates back
to thousands of years ago. This is evidenced by the caves at Tal-Qattara and
at Ta’ San Brinkaw as well as megalith remains of the Bronze Age period at
Tal-Qadi and at Qaliet Marku.
One finds many beautiful
properties for rent and sale n Naxxar. the property types are varied but one
cannot forget to state that many of Malta's most beautiful houses of
character are located this quite village.
